Dear Neighbor,
Thank you for contacting us regarding the anticipated increase in Nanuet school taxes for those living in the Orangetown portion. We, too, are very concerned about the impact this increase will have on property owners. As you may have read, the school tax increase for the Orangetown portion of the Nanuet School District is the result of several different factors and a formula directed by the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. Orangetown’s Assessor has been working for the past several months to minimize the impact of this formula on property owners, including meetings with the State and our locally elected state representatives. As a final step, our Assessor has filed an appeal with the NYS Office of Taxation and Finance’s Office of Real Property Tax Services, scheduled to be heard at their Aug. 23rd meeting in Albany. We strongly suggest affected property owners share concerns with:
New York State Department of Taxation and Finance
Attn: Office of Counsel – Darlene Maloney
Building 9, Room 100
WA Harriman Campus
Albany, New York 12227
Please be sure to send copies to NYS Assemblymember Ellen Jaffee Jaffee@assembly.state.ny.us and State Senator David Carlucci Carlucci@nysenate.gov.
In addition, homeowners may want to contact the Nanuet School District to request that due to the unusual and impactful circumstances of the upcoming collection, that the school district consider accepting partial payments, similar to what is allowed for the collection of Town/County taxes in January.

Please be sure to copy Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart astewart@orangetown.com and Orangetown Assessor Brian Kenney bkenney@orangetown.com on any emails or letters you send.
