• Volunteer Opportunities

  Welcome to the Orangetown Volunteer Program!

  Volunteers help Town departments achieve their mission while gaining valuable experience and contacts, as well as the sense of satisfaction that comes from making a practical contribution to the community.

  Volunteers in Orangetown serve in four basic ways:

  Committee work: Through appointment by the Town Board to one of about 20 Town committees and boards, these volunteers attend meetings and serve as either advisors (e.g. golf committee) or decision-makers (e.g. planning board). The Town Board makes these appointments at the beginning of the calendar year, or fills vacancies as they occur.
  Internship: Placement based on interest and skills on a temporary or project basis under the supervision of a department head. Suitable for high-performing high school, college and graduate students interested in working 10-15 hours per week in exchange for opportunity to learn, network and obtain job references.
  On-going assignment:Regular volunteer involvement, suitable for retired people or others with the ability to participate 5-10 hours per week on a regular basis.
  Group work days: Assignment to a beautification, cleanup or other “one-off” project suitable for 6-12 volunteers on a weekend morning. Great for corporate team building experiences, Scouts, families, clubs, etc.

Whether you want to be an intern, organize a group work day, or participate on a committee, the Town of Orangetown will find a way to put you to work!
