OTHER BUSINESS:
MORRIE BROWN for an amendment to HABR#14-06; 80.06 I 1 I 25; R-80 zoning district for an amendment to the previously approved pool cabana.
In order to save a 150 year old tree, the proposed pool cabana had to be reduced in size. When the reduction was made there were minor changes to the structure and the proposed pergola was removed.
Larry Bucciarelli made a motion to APPROVE the changes to the cabana, which motion was seconded by William Walter and carried unanimously.

HABR#l 4-08: Application of Joseph Napoli for review of an above ground pool and fence at an existing single-family residence. The premises are located at 179 Kings Highway, in the Town of Orangetown, Hamlet of Tappan, New York. Chapter 12, Section 12-4(A), Historic Areas Board of Review.

Heard by the HISTORIC AREAS BOARD OF REVIEW at a meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at which time the Board made the following determination:
Wayne Garrison recused himself. Joseph Napoli appeared.
The following documents were presented:
- Site plan with the proposed pool drawn in.
- Round pool installation instructions and pool safety ladder.
- Brochure picture of the Cedar Tongue and Groove without square lattice fence.
Joseph Napoli stated that he would like to install a 15′ round pool in the rear yard of his house; that he would also like to install a six-foot cedar fence in the rear yard; that the filter would be placed by the lilac bushes that cannot be seen from the street; that they are not proposing to build a deck around the pool and would be using the ladder to get in and out of the pool; and that they are not proposing any additional outdoor lighting.
PUBLIC COMMENT: No public comment.

FINDINGS OF FACT:
The Board, after personal observation of the property, hearing all the testimony and reviewing same, found as fact, that: The application as presented, would not adversely affect the Historic District and the surrounding area. The design and
materials for the proposed 15′ round cream/white above ground pool and the six-foot
cedar tongue and groove fence with square lattice are complimentary to the District.
- The 15′ round cream/white above ground pool with an outside safety ladder shall be installed in the rear of the house.
- The fence shall be a six-foot cedar tongue and groove fence with square lattice
installed inside the existing chain-link fence.
- The mechanicals for the pool shall be installed within the circle of existing lilac bushes.

Heard by the HISTORIC AREAS BOARD OF REVIEW at a meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at which time the Board made the following determination:
Walter Aurell, Architect, appeared.
The following documents were presented:
- Site plan.
- Architectural plans labeled “New Roof & Existing Condition” (4 pages).
Walter Aurell, Architect, stated that the applicant would like to add a section of roof to the existing porch; that the deck of the porch exists and this section of the porch does not have a roof; that they are proposing to add a column and fill in the roof in that area; that the roof material for the porch section of the house would be Sheffield Metals in slate grey; that the house roof needs to be replaced and they are proposing to replace that roof with a synthetic slate material that has a chipped edge to it in DaVinci Slate Black; that the there are no plans presently to paint the house; and that he will relay to the applicant
the concerns of the Board regarding the color of the roof with the yellow mustard color of the house.

The design and materials for the proposed house roof and porch roof are complimentary to the District.
- The roof of the porch shall be filled in to cover the existing decking and a new column added to accommodate the new slate grey metal roof for the porch.
- The new house roof shall be synthetic slate with a chipped edge in DaVinci Slate black.
- The gutters and leaders shall be white to match the existing.
- The trim shall be white to match the exiting.

are living in; that they are still working to complete the pool house and shed; that the pool shall be 14′ wide and 50′ long; that they will continue the bluestone patio around the pool to match the existing bluestone by the house; that the existing cottage will be used as her studio and a pool cabana; that the east side of the property is heavily wooded and the westem side of the property has many flowering trees; that the pool fence will be iron
with a gate to compliment it; that there will be two gates to get in; that there will not be
any additional outdoor lighting; that the pool will have lights on the interior; that the mechanicals will be by the cottage on a 4′ x 8′ patio and secluded; and that since purchasing the house they have planted 280 fruit and flowering trees.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
William Hodash, 60 Highland A venue; stated that he is a neighbor directly across the street; and he is in support of the application and wanted to see exactly where the pool was being installed.
