TOWN OF ORANGETOWN COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Town of Orangetown is updating its Comprehensive Plan for the first time since 2003 to establish a guiding framework for future sustainable development, economic growth, and natural resource preservation in the Town. A Comprehensive Plan is a long-term planning document that establishes a community’s goals and aspirations for the future, while providing a roadmap for how to achieve them. Over the next several months, the Town will hold a series of public workshops and provide other opportunities for community feedback. Through input from local residents, workers, and business owners, the Comprehensive Plan Update will reflect the goals and recommendations of the Orangetown community, and will serve as a guiding framework for the Town’s growth and development in the coming years.
PROJECT SCHEDULE AND APPROACH
On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, the Town Board established a Comprehensive Plan Committee (CPC) to draft the Comprehensive Plan Update. The CPC will be holding two public workshops to inform the plan. During the workshops, participants will be invited to discuss their vision for the future and provide recommendations for the Comprehensive Plan Update. The information gathered at the workshops will be integrated into the Comprehensive Plan Update, which will be drafted through a series of scheduled meetings with the CPC. The CPC agendas and meeting minutes will be posted to the Town’s website. Members of the public will be able to watch the CPC meetings on Zoom or attend in person at Town Hall. The public will be invited to speak at the two public workshops (October 18, 2021, at 7:00 pm, and December 6, 2021, at 7:00 pm) and at the public hearings (dates to be determined). In addition, members of the community will also be able to provide input through a digital survey described below.
Comprehensive Plan Considerations
The Comprehensive Plan Update will consider the following planning considerations.
• Current and future land uses, zoning, design, and community character;
• Transportation, mobility and parking;
• Demographic trends and socioeconomic conditions;
• Economic development; and
• Open space and recreation, sustainability, green infrastructure, and climate resiliency.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN SURVEY
The online survey offers community members an opportunity to provide their input and thoughts on existing and future conditions within the Town. The survey will be available for thirty days from, from September 29, 2021, to November 3, 2021, and all are encouraged to participate. The survey is CLOSED, but click on the results below.
