NEW Orangetown Sign Law
The Town of Orangetown has recently revised its regulations relating to temporary signs. The major changes are:
- In the past, the Town allowed temporary signs on the Town right-of-way. With the new changes, however, placing signs on the right-of-way is now prohibited. All signs (including political signs) placed on the right-of-way hereafter will be removed by the Town.
- In the past, the Town had different time standards for different types of temporary signs. Now all temporary signs must be removed after 90 days of their initial placement and cannot be re-posted for a period of 60 days.
- In the past, the Town Code did not specify size limitations for temporary signs. Under the new provisions, temporary signs cannot exceed 10 feet in height or width; nor can they exceed total sign area of 32 square feet.
- The new sign provisions also provide more guidance on the maintenance of signs, and if signs are not properly maintained, the Town can order them to be repaired or taken down, and if the owner or tenant does not comply, the Town may do so and the costs assessed to the property
